I’ve had scarring acne for almost three years and I’ve tried everything from soap and water to Proactive, eight different brands in total and a whole bunch of unconventional treatments. So I finally found one that works, a drug called minocylcine I’ve been taking 200 mg a day for two months, along with the use of Differen gel for my scars. My dermatologist says that in two more months he’s taking me off of the mino and just letting me use the gel daily to prevent more breakouts and keep treating any scars left, and that I should be good, if not, he wants to go with Accutane. I’m using urine therapy and mino again before Accutane, definitely, but I don’t think that’s logic. Apparently he thinks that this minocycline (a type of tetrocylcine if you’re familiar) is going to kill my scarring acne for life. I’ll have normal breakouts like other kids that I can treat with the Differen, but I don’t know, I think scarring acne is my version of a normal breakout, it seems weird. I don’t think Accutane is necessary, but if there’s been no tests on long term use of mino . . .
Anyways, that doesn’t make sense to me. Can a drug banish your severe acne for life and reduce you to normal breakouts? I’m fourteen now, and normally this could continue for twice that. And also, if you’ve used Accutane, can you tell me about your experience? Thanks!
